Współcześnie czterdziestogodzinne nabożeństwo jest stopniowo zapominane. Najczęściej służy jedynie jako „wstęp” do Wielkiego Postu. Ma jednak bardzo bogatą i długą tradycję. Już w 1539 r. papież Paweł III pisał, że powstało, aby „ułagodzić gniew Boga, spowodowany występkami chrześcijan, oraz aby udaremnić wysiłki i machinacje Turków, dążących do zniszczenia chrześcijaństwa”.
Czterdziestogodzinne nabożeństwo bywa nazywane Quarant' Ore (lub Quarantore), od quarant – „czterdzieści” oraz hora – „godzina”. Najkrócej mówiąc, polega na nieustannej, trwającej czterdzieści godzin modlitwie przed uroczyście wystawionym Najświętszym Sakramentem. Jest to więc nabożeństwo eucharystyczne i powinno się zarówno zaczynać, jak i kończyć mszą św. Istnieją nawet specjalne, uroczyste msze, połączone z procesją z Najświętszym Sakramentem, przewidziane na początek i koniec czterdziestogodzinnego nabożeństwa.
The Saint Joseph Feast is celebrated by Church on the 19th of March. He is a beloved one of the Virgin Mary. The Feast is a Holy day of obligation, so every member of Catholic Church must attend a Holy Mass then. Except for that day the Church celebrates Devotions to Saint Joseph every Wednesday of each week.
Each first Thursday of the Month is a reminiscent of what we celebrate on Holy Thursday. The first Thursday of the Month is a day of a Eucharist and therefore is a time of thanksgiving mainly. On this day we thank for the greatest miracle, for the Church and for everything that contributes to our Salvation.
